May 2012 Kaitlyn Reimer made a formal request to the Winkler Community Foundation to make a Katie Cares Fund. She transferred money from a savings account that she had started. Put the money into a fund with the foundation. The money she raised came from t-shirt sales, donations, and memorial donations. This was another way the money she was entrusted with would grow and continue to support her charity.

Since 2013 the charity has received money yearly. Projects such as purchasing Teddy bears, Beanie Babies, hospital carts, construction of Katie’s Cottage have been funded. This year the donation was $4,134.00 and will be used to purchase plastic. Due to Covid the charity has incurred an added expense. To carry out the Beanie Baby program the Beanie Babies staff must follow strict guidelines to ensure that the guidelines set out by the Regional Healthy Authority are being met. The vacuum sealing adds an extra expense which we needed to add to the budget. This donation will give the program the extra funds its needs to purchase the plastic.
