Approximately 3 months ago Kerry and Darlene Pollock contacted Ruth Reimer. They chose to create the Kaitlyn Marie Scholarship in memory of Kaitlyn. It is with a great deal of pride that we announce June 2022 a scholarship will be given to a student from Garden Valley Collegiate. The following is a statement from Kerry and Darlene:

A few months ago, my wife Darlene and I were discussing ways to pay forward some of our good fortune.

We are big believers in paying it forward.  In 1999 my father Bill, my mother Jean and myself established the William, Jean, and Kerry Pollock Family Fund with the Winnipeg Foundation.  After Darlene and I were married in 2002 her name was added to the fund.  On an annual basis our fund awards annual grants to Katie’s Cottage, BTHC Foundation and Cancer-Care Manitoba.

After some discussion we decided to establish a scholarship at Garden Valley Collegiate in Kaitlyn’s name to honor Kaitlyn as we are huge believers in Kaitlyn’s vision and her dedication even as she battled the cancer which ultimately took her precious life in establishing Katie’s Cottage along with her mother Ruth, her father Randy, and her brother John.

Both Darlene and I have achieved postsecondary education and want to give a deserving student some help in achieving their education goals with an annual scholarship in Kaitlyn’s name. Initially, there will be an annual scholarship of $1000 presented.

This scholarship is designed to give a helping hand to a student.

If you would like to donate to the scholarship you can donate to the Winnipeg Foundation or to the Winkler Community Foundation Kaitlyn Marie Reimer Scholarship. Thank you to Kerry and Darlene for your generosity and forward thinking to make give back to the community.

See it…Believe it…Achieve it…
